Google Art Project: Democratizing Art Globally

It’s incredible the extent to which one can enjoy art from all over the world through Google’s Street View technology! Now one can not only take a virtual tour, but also examine the details of one work after another with a resolution of up to one billion pixels. Following the last expansion of its offer, one can now use the Google Art Project to enjoy some 30,000 pieces in over 150 galleries, museums and institutes located in some 40 countries:

This is –probably- the largest effort that I know of towards the democratization of art at a global scale, where people anywhere in the world can access the collections of a full range of entities, from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar. Just think of the implications, not only for art lovers, but also for students, researchers, scholars, to the end of the long list.
